Kimberly Cowan | Teacher
My Email: Kimberly.Cowan@washk12.orgI grew up in Southern California. I came to Utah in 2001 to play softball at Southern Utah University where I earned my degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood. In 2002, I met my husband who was an SUU football player. He graduated a few years ahead of me and took a coaching/teaching job in Duchesne, and I followed him there a few years later. I started teaching in Duchesne in 2005, later earning a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
We have three children; a 19 year old daughter, Kloee ( with a wonderful boyfriend, Ty), a 16 year old son, Kannon, and a 14 year old son, Rambo.
We left Duchesne just over a year ago to move to Hurricane. My husband is now the Hurricane High School football coach, and I’m trying to build my collection of red, Tiger football gear. In my spare time, you’ll probably find me at a ball game of some sort, or anywhere near water. I like fitness, but I like chips and salsa more!
I just finished a year at Three Falls Elementary, which wraps up my 20th year of teaching. Most of my teaching years have been in kindergarten. I love teaching and feel so blessed to have found my true calling.
I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to teach at La Verkin Elementary!

Miranda Schear | Teacher
My Email: Miranda.Schear@washk12.orgAfter finishing my degree at SUU, I moved to Las Vegas to teach first grade. When I moved back to Utah, I was lucky enough to find a job at LaVerkin Elementary. I have been here for 19 years. I love this school!
I live in New Harmony with my husband and 4 kids. I love living in an area that allows a big garden, lots of flowers, my chickens, and room for my kids to play! I grew up in the (then) small town of Heber, Utah, but my loathing of snow sent me to Southern Utah after I graduated, and I haven’t wanted to leave!
If I could be anything other than a teacher, I’d love living on a big farm with ALL the animals! As a part time job, my husband and I maintain properties, feed animals, and do yard care for large properties in New Harmony, so it’s a fun way to fulfill my dream of a farm (and to play with all the baby animals) without all the responsibility.😊
I love traveling, camping, reading, and anything to do with the beach! When we aren’t camping, Florida is the vacation of choice for my family! We love spending time on the beach in Clearwater, visiting Universal Studios and SeaWorld, and we can’t pass up a trip to Discovery Cove! I love teaching STEM (my absolute teaching passion) and coaching Lego First League teams, in addition to teaching first grade. I have my ESL, reading, and early childhood endorsements, and am currently working on my Master’s Degree.
